I just received a message from Google Wave with a handful of invites.
I'm offering them up.
Leave a comment of your favorite interview question—either one you ask a job candidate, or a question you've had to answer in an interview.
Love or hate.
I'll choose best responses by Thanksgiving, notify you so I can capture your email (required to submit request for invitation), and then submit your invitation order.
Invitations are not sent immediately, but should arrive as my Christmas present to you.
Good luck!

The one I have never liked is, "What are your goals for the next five years?" Always makes me feel oddly on the spot, as if I should have something fantastically awesome in mind, when most of the time it's to not run out of fresh food or clean underwear.
Well, here's hoping you have much success in reaching your five year 'goals' LOL. I'll be cheering for you and promise to bring something for the fridge next time I come over. (Does everyone know we're not identical twins when it comes to...everything?)
My favorite question I asked at a Vancouver, Washington train station: "Do you think you're in Canada?" You can read the rest of the story on my blog here.
Thanks Melanie, your Google Wave invite is in the mail!
One question that leaves me absolutely apopleptic on a daily basis is "Honey, what do you want for dinner"? Seriously, do I need to be worrying about this while I'm at work? :)
Terry: When I ask that question before coming home, (what should we have for dinner) the answer usually is...food?
Enjoy Google Wave!
My question: Have you ever killed anyone and, if so, did they need killing?
Bill: I have not ... this year.
I'm a little worried about Bill Cameron. That question gives me the chills. Luckily I like the man, so I guess it is okay.
I'm harmless! Approximately.
A worst: "What do you do for a living?"
It's such an easy ice breaker at a party or gathering, yet it's so cliche and boring, as if we are all defined by what we do.
A best: "So you are saying [fill in the blank]?"
For news, active listening and consent repeating pulls out the best quotes from dynamic subjects and good information from otherwise reserved contacts.
Jen: I love the qualifier, "So you are saying..." It is very helpful in the sales arena where it is imperative we grasp what a customer is expressing. Thanks for adding to the blog!
Ha. Ha. I guess I didn't need to qualify the statement with "For news." ... It works well on significant others as well. :)
I hate to be interviewed and I have blocked all my interview questions from my feeble mind. Can I still have a wave????
You bet! Now, you will be as confused as the rest of us :-)
“What is your biggest regret?”
Interviewing for a bartender job a few years back, the owner's first question is, 'Make me laugh. I told him a story that was more interesting than it was funny - I didn't get the job.
What am I a greeting card???
Oh yeah, yes you are. :)
Here's my guess, that guy would have demanded a command performance at the drop of the hat and likely would have been a difficult boss. You may have dodged a bad-boss-bullet!
Perhaps; that's a good way to look at it anyway. That sort of job, where the owner is hands on is usually decided before the interview I think. If they don't share the same vibe as you, your sunk.
I thought bar tending would be a good way to 'mine' stories towards my writing - so it was backwards from the start.
Sitting quietly on the other side of the bar has turned out to be much more interesting.
Hey Carol,
I just noticed, I have a Google wave account is that something you did, or is it rolling out to all?
Michael Holloway
Cool. I, of course, take credit for all good things, but if you have a gmail account it is likely Google opened up your Google Wave via that. If no gmail account, I'm stumped.
The best resource for using Google Wave is The Complete Guide to Google Wave by Gina Trapani. You can buy a copy or read the entire book free online.
Cheers! Carol
